All-Silicon Raman Laser with Quasi-Phase-Matched Structures and Resonators

چکیده
The principle of all-silicon Raman lasers for an output wavelength of 1.3 μm is presented, which employs quasi-phase-matched structures and resonators to enhance the output power. 1.3-μm laser beams for GE-PONs in FTTH systems generated from a silicon device are very important because such a silicon device can be monolithically integrated with the silicon planar lightwave circuits (Si PLCs) used in the GE-PONs. This reduces the device fabrication processes and time and also optical losses at the junctions between optical waveguides of the Si PLCs and Si laser devices when compared with 1.3-μm III-V semiconductor lasers set on the Si PLCs employed at present. We show that the quasi-phase-matched Si Raman laser with resonators can produce about 174 times larger laser power at 1.3 μm (at maximum) than that without resonators for a Si waveguide of Raman gain 20 cm/GW and optical loss 1.2 dB/cm, pumped at power 10 mW, where the length of the waveguide is 3 mm and its cross-section is (1.5 μm). Keywords—All-silicon raman laser, FTTH, GE-PON, quasi-phase-matched structure, resonator.

Correlation Between Surface Morphology and Optical Properties of Quasi-Columnar Porous Silicon Nanostructures
In the current work, the effect of surface morphology on light emission property and absorption behavior of quasi-columnar macro-porous silicon (PS) was investigated. PS structures with different morphology were synthesized using photo-electrochemical etching method by applying different etching current densities. SEM micrographs showed that empty macro-pores size and porosity of PS layers were...
متن کاملTunable ring resonators for silicon Raman laser and amplifier applications
Recently, low threshold Raman silicon lasers based on ring resonator architecture have been demonstrated. One of the key elements of the laser cavity is the directional coupler that couples both pump and signal light in and out of the ring resonator from the bus waveguide. The coupling coefficients are crucial for achieving desired laser performance. In this paper, we report design, fabrication...
متن کاملNanophotonic devices on thin buried oxide Silicon-On-Insulator substrates.
We demonstrate a silicon photonic platform using thin buried oxide silicon-on-insulator (SOI) substrates using localized substrate removal. We show high confinement silicon strip waveguides, micro-ring resonators and nanotapers using this technology. Propagation losses for the waveguides using the cutback method are 3.88 dB/cm for the quasi-TE mode and 5.06 dB/cm for the quasi-TM mode. Ring res...

Here, we propose an add-drop and a channel drop filter based on two-dimensional photonic crystal all circular ring resonators. These structures are made of a square lattice of silicon rods with the refractive index n1=3.464 surrounded by air (with refractive index n2=1). The broadest photonic band gap occurs at the filling ratio of r/a = 0.17. Two linear defect W1 waveguides couple to the ring....

In this paper metal-assisted chemical etching has been applied to pattern porous silicon regions and silicon nanohole arrays in submicron period simply by using positive photoresist as a mask layer. In order to define silicon nanostructures, Metal-assisted chemical etching (MaCE) was carried out with silver catalyst. Provided solution (or materiel) in combination with laser interference lithogr...
